Summer in Kenton

It’s hard to believe we’ve already crossed that magical middle of summer timeline.  Our local Kenton Park has two evening concerts coming, Tuesday nights:  August 17th and August 24th for live music, check the KNA calendar for details.  Also Portland Parks and Recreation Summer Playground Program will be weekdays 11 am – 5 pm until August 18th.  Free lunches M – F are available for kids from 12 pm – 1 pm.  The water feature looks to be busy on all sunny afternoons and there’s room for picnics, playing freebie, and lounging in the sun for everyone.

There are several streets in Kenton that have become part of the new Bicycle Boulevards system with the special “sharrow” symbol.  Rather than having to stay in a bike lane, these streets:  Wabash, Hamlin and Fenwick Avenues are open to both riders and cars sharing together, still be careful, as old driving habits on these streets are still common – no stopping, turning left into traffic and speeding.

Practical note:  burglaries always seem to go up in the summer, too many windows and doors are left unlocked and cat burglars are handy at taking advantage of easy entry.

The KNA is doing some updating to our website in August to speed things up, so watch for those improvements and please excuse any downtime you may experience.
