Kenton Sewer Repair Project Construction Update: April 21, 2015
DEVELOPMENTS OF NOTE
· The contractor has completed pipe bursting and most open trench construction on the project, and will next begin work on the Cured-in-Place Pipe-Lining (CIPP) phase. This will require videotaping several sewer main lines and branches over the next several weeks. For more information on construction methods, go to www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/constructionmethods
· Bike lanes on Denver will be closed at McClellan while concrete sets around the manholes. Please be aware of detour signs and bikes in the roadway during this time. Pedestrian walkways are also likely to be affected during this closure. Please follow signs and stay out of designated work areas.
· Work during the next two weeks will be focused on street paving. During this period, a number of detours and traffic controls will be in place around Kenton Park and the Business District. Detours and road closures may shift between streets on any given day. Please be aware of detour and road closure signs as well as flaggers in the roadway.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE
Below is the anticipated construction schedule for the next two weeks. This schedule is subject to change due to a variety of factors, including underground conditions, weather, subcontractor schedules and availability of materials. As the contractor completes construction on each street, work crews apply a temporary asphalt patch. They will return at a later date to apply permanent paving.

As weather and availability of work crews and equipment allow, crews are beginning to do final paving on streets where sewer repairs are complete. Due to these circumstances, paving work may occur that is not part of this notice and scheduled final paving may be delayed.

Week of April 20th:

· N McClellan (between Denver and Brandon) – Final street paving – McClellan will be local access only during this period and there will be no on street parking.
· N Schofield (between Denver and Brandon) – Final street paving – Schofield will be local access only during this period. There will also be no on street parking on the day of paving. No parking signs will be posted the day before paving. Please have cars off the street by 7 a.m.
· N Kilpatrick (between Brandon and Delaware) – Street restoration in preparation for final paving – crews will be restoring the manhole structure near Delaware. Through traffic will be permitted, but only one lane of traffic will be open. Please be aware of flaggers.
Week of April 27th:
· N Kilpatrick (between Brandon and Delaware) – Final street paving – Kilpatrick will be local access only during the beginning of this week and on street parking will be restricted. TriMet will utilize the Argyle and Brandon detour route during the paving period.
· N Farragut (between Montana and Minnesota) – Final street paving – Farragut will be local access only during this period and there will be no on street parking.
· N Montana (between McClellan and Kilpatrick) – Final street paving – Montana will be local access only during paving

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION
· Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and potentially some Saturdays.
· Construction will create noise, vibration and dust and may disrupt normal neighborhood activity.
· Traffic control signs will be set up. The contractor maintains local access, but expect delays.
· On-street parking in or near the work area is prohibited during construction hours. When crews are working on your block, please plan to move your vehicle to another block each day by 7:00 a.m.
· Equipment and materials are stored on nearby streets overnight.
· There will be periods of inactivity between construction phases.
· A city inspector is on-site during work hours and may be able to assist you with construction concerns. Inspectors typically wear a City of Portland safety vest and hard hat.
· Please stay clear of all construction activities and keep children and pets clear of all construction activities.

FOR MORE INFORMATION
Environmental Services is replacing about 7,000 feet of public sewer pipes in the Kenton neighborhood that are between 80 and 90 years old and failing due to age. This project will increase sewer capacity and reduce the risks of street flooding and sewage releases to homes, businesses and streets.
