Update: Street closure to start on August 3rd.
As part of the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s (PBOT) Safe Streets Initiative in response to COVID-19, the Kenton Business Association (KBA) has been working since May to bring a Main Street Plaza to N Denver Ave through a Healthy Businesses permit, and those efforts are finally paying off: The project is expected to go live this week and run through September!
Under the KBA’s permit, N Denver will be closed between N Schofield St and N McClellan St with through traffic allowed on those side streets and TriMet diverting the #4 to N Delaware Ave and N Schofield St. Closure plan can be found here.
With the closure comes a safe, distanced plaza for neighbors and residents to come out and enjoy Kenton’s shops and restaurants along with creative amenities like a painted mural down the street and outdoor art installations. See embedded presentation below for additional details.
Have thoughts on the project? You can provide feedback via the project survey and/or contact the KBA directly.
Want to help out? The KBA has set up a GoFundMe to help offset costs. You can also Venmo @Kenton_Rules (note “Denver Ave Plaza” in the comments). Volunteers will be needed to help bring the project to life, too. You can sign up here.7.24-Safe-Streets-Presentation
