Although the Denver Ave Plaza has been a major success for certain businesses and well-received by the neighborhood, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) has determined that a reset on the plaza is necessary to ensure that the plaza is more inclusive and benefits all establishments on N Denver and informed businesses via a letter.
While determining what the plaza should look like going forward, PBOT is having the KBA temporarily shut down the plaza starting on Monday, August 17th. The KBA was issued a permit to close N Denver under PBOT’s Safe Streets Initiative. In the meantime, the plaza will be open fully this weekend, and parking strip plazas will be installed on Monday (see below) to allow the plaza to proceed in some format.
The KNA hopes the KBA, N Denver businesses and PBOT can quickly work together to re-imagine the plaza concept under a unified plan that supports all businesses. As part of this process, neighbors are asked to provide feedback to PBOT on how the plaza has been going. If you have any other questions and/or concerns, please contact the KBA directly.
Thanks to everyone that donated (Nearly $15,000 was raised!), volunteered and/or supported the plaza in any other form!
